Description
I remember growing up and hearing the phrase "concrete galoshes" or "cement overshoes" in films or movies meaning that some sinister/evil character(s) had put the victim's feet in hardening concrete/cement, that, once cured, was a death sentence as that person was dropped in water to sink helplessly to the bottom of some river or the ocean to drown, held down by the weight of the concrete.
As my neighbor was creating a new parking pad for his property I was able to see another version, and perhaps the more correct version of concrete galoshes also known as cement overshoes. In this image you see an actual pair of galoshes (or boots), overshoes worn by a worker engaged in pouring and finishing wet concrete to create the neighbor's parking pad. There were three concrete-workers who were all ankle deep in very wet concrete as their co-worker (also ankle-deep in concrete) pumped the wet cement into the rebar grid that had been created the day before. The worker is leaning over to take hold of a taking board and has a smaller flat/level tool in his right hand, both used to work and spread the concrete until level and smooth. They all carefully and quickly poured and worked the concrete, one section at a time - never in danger of their feet becoming permanently embedded in hardened concrete.
